Join Our Team: An Exciting Opportunity at DM Dale & Co!

Updated: May 15

Here at DM Dale & Co, the family farm behind your favourite Proper Good Dairy organic milk, we're excited to announce that we're looking for a new member to join our dedicated team! If you're passionate about farming, enjoy a varied workload, and want to be part of a thriving local business rooted in the heart of South Shropshire, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

A Bit About Us

For over 25 years, our family has been farming organically here in the beautiful South Shropshire countryside. We're incredibly proud of our herd of around 300 Friesian x Jersey cows, who graze our lush pastures and produce the high-quality organic milk that goes into every reusable glass bottle of Proper Good Dairy. Our commitment to organic principles and high animal welfare standards is at the core of everything we do, from field to vending machine. We believe in sustainable farming that works in harmony with nature, and we're looking for someone who shares that ethos.

The Opportunity: General Farm Worker / Maintenance Operative

We're seeking a motivated and practical individual to take on the role of General Farm Worker / Maintenance Operative. This isn't just a job; it's a chance to play a key part in the smooth running of our busy dairy farm. The role is wonderfully varied, meaning no two days are quite the same!

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking a range of general farm work.

  • Keeping our farm in top shape with essential maintenance tasks – this includes fencing, building repairs (like shed work and concreting), and general yard upkeep.

  • Competent tractor driving for various field operations.

  • Playing your part in the milking routine – here at DM Dale & Co, everyone on the farm team gets involved with milking our lovely herd.

We're looking for someone with a can-do attitude, practical skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for agriculture. While previous dairy farming experience is a bonus, a strong background in maintenance and a willingness to learn are just as important.

Flexibility and Growth

We understand that traditional full-time hours don't suit everyone. While this can be a full-time position, we are also very open to applications from individuals seeking part-time or flexible hours, provided there's a commitment to covering some weekend work as part of the team rota.

Furthermore, for those with a particular interest and aptitude for livestock, there's an exciting option to take on responsibility for aspects of managing our youngstock – a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills further.

What We're Looking For (The Essentials & The Extras!):

  • Solid practical skills in maintenance (fencing, basic building repairs).

  • Proven experience in tractor driving.

  • A willingness to be an active part of our milking team.

  • Reliability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work both independently and as a valued team member.

  • Basic but crucial maths and literacy skills.

  • Essential: A full UK driving licence (our operations are spread across a couple of sites).

  • Essential: The existing right to work in the UK (please note, we are unable to sponsor overseas workers for this position).

  • Advantageous (but not essential): A telehandler certificate and/or a UTV (buggy) certificate.

What We Offer in Return:

  • A genuinely varied and engaging role on a progressive, family-run organic farm.

  • A competitive rate of pay, which will be dependent on your age and experience.

  • The chance to be part of a small, friendly, and supportive team.

  • Opportunities for skills development, particularly if the youngstock management aspect appeals.

  • A workplace pension scheme after a qualifying period.

  • (Please note: Accommodation is not provided with this role.)
